LE MENU - 2009

Sound Sculpture

Drawing on French New Wave film of the 1950's and 60's, Le Menu seeks to highlight a sequence of moving images and soundscapes through the use of audio collage, a sculptural placard, and everyday life. Sampled audio recordings of 30 second audio tracks from various DVD movie menus, watched in queue by the artist, create an improvised dialogue and conversational narrative with the placard's location and shifting participants-- allowing the sound of the discs recorded, their playback, and stylistic jumpcuts to casually enmesh the audience in an indeterminate plot.
